The memorable day 10th October 2020 was when the underdog SSC TUATARA was spotted in its natural habitat. The speed record set by the tuatara was recorded at 316.11MPH (508.73 KMPH) on an 11.7 KM stretch open highway just outside Las Vegas.
The result beat two high marks set last year by the Bugatti Chiron pre-production concept cars (304.77 MPH) by a wide margin and one of Koenigsegg Agera RS production car(277.87 MPH) set for 2017.
Two officials from the Guinness Book of World Records had witnessed this spectacular achievement achieved by this car.
SSC is among the world's most elusive automakers. The privately-owned firm, founded in 1998 and with only 24 employees, was formerly branded Shelby SuperCars Inc., which inspired its current name. Not like other record braking companies as Lamborghini, Koenigsegg, which pulls on deep productions runs, histories and pockets, SSC showcases no famous, supportive automotive groups and claims mini production volume. Mere 100 SSC Tuatara will be produced for the whole world.
This car was designed by Jason Casttriota, who even designed the Ferrari Pininfarina. The Tuatara name was given after a native lizard found in New Zeland. The car's design is so unique and suits the car's reputation it has gained in the automotive industry. The Speedster under the hood rocks a 5.9 Litre, Twin-Turbocharged V8 spooling 1,750 horsepower on E85 (85% Ethanol) and producing 1,735 Nm of torque. The company put 10 years of hard work and multimillions in creating this masterpiece.
The Tuatara starts at $1.9 million. The first production run of 12 units for 2021 has already been sold.
